What a coincidence...

Hey everyone.... Hope all is well back home! Well the last few days have been awesome. Monday I don't have class so I took the opportunity to explore Roma by myself for a few hours. I headed to Campo Di Fiori which in the morning until about 1 pm is a huge fresh fruit, vegetable, and spice market, and when I say huge I mean it. It takes up the whole piazza and it's filled with tons of people as well. I have been wanting to pick up some spices to zest up my pasta's I have become pretty good at making, so I got some pasta mix spices and about had an attack because all the spices were so strong smelling! After purchasing the spices I wandered around the market and took it all in. I had seen a few Gelato places around and was really craving some, so I went to Blue Ice which I had heard was really good and it definitely lived up to the good reviews! I ordered a rendition of mint chocolate chip and chocolate.... it was really delicious! I then headed to one of the fountains at the end of the Piazza (Square) and sat down to enjoy my gelato and the commotion and scenery around me. It was so interesting just to be an onlooker and see the different personalities of the Italian culture. It was something I had been meaning to do and am really glad I took this opportunity to do so.

After finishing my gelato I headed to Piazza Navona where many art vendors and street performers hang out. For my Advanced Type class we are doing a project called your experiential journey, kind of a point to point analysis. I choose to do my journey from one end of the Piazza Navona to the other. There are so many different activities going on day and night and all the activities excite many of the 5 senses from sight to sound. There are musical performers, fountains, actors, artists, anything you could imagine, in this one Piazza. Again I took it all in and also photographed as well so I could have a little inspiration for my project. After wandering through the Piazza I was thinking that I hadn't seen the Pantheon in full yet and it isn't to far away from Piazza Navona so I decided to walk there and take a few pictures. It was an incredible sight the oculus in the center of the dome is so neat when the sun is shining through and creates a reflection on the opposite wall, they say that when it rains the inside of the building remains perfectly dry, amazing! It is a great feeling when you can navigate yourself around and not get lost in a big city like Rome, that's when you know that you are getting well acquainted with your surroundings. It is an awesome accomplishment!

For my next story, last night while we were sitting in our room not doing anything but playing around on our computers we thought what the heck are we doing sitting in on our apartment on a night like this in ROME... crazy right? So we decided to head to Campo Di Fiori  to see the night life part of the Piazza and have a glass of wine. We choose a place called Sloppy Sam's an Irish Pub to have a drink and sat down at a little table not thinking anything of about what was going to happen next. A man came up to us and said are you girls american and we could tell by his accent that he was also american. He offered us there plate of nachos that they had just received because they were completely stuffed from all the other food they had already eaten. The funny part was we had been eyeing the nachos on the menu because that is a pretty american dish and it looked delicious, so we obviously said yes. When he returned from the next table with our nachos I asked him what part of the states he was from and his response "IOWA" our jaws dropped, what a small world and then when we asked what part of Iowa "Des Moines" and "The Quad Cities".  They were two couples in there 40's most likely and they were visiting Italy for the week. They invited us to join them at there table, so we spent a while talking about what they had done and little get to know you thing. We ended up hopping bars and taking them to the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain as their own personal tour guides. It was such an amazing coincidence and one that I think we all needed, a little interaction with some good ole midwestern folk haha! If the week has already gone this well I can't wait to see where the weekend takes me! We are going to the Vatican tomorrow in art history so I am sure I will have much to share about that in my next blog! Talk to you all soon Ciao!
